Len, do a Google image search for prop 65 and see what comes up.  Almost every business in the state has one of these warnings.  This state passed this proposition to warn people about cancer causing products but all that it did was make people realize that literally everything causes cancer in one study or another so no matter what you do yuo have the same chance of getting cancer.  Regarding the OP, many times companies only want to produce one piece of packaging for the US so they make it California compliant.  If you think this is bad you should look at an auto parts catalog.

I can see it now.  The politicians and attorneys debate hours upon end to create these signs to address all the items which may cause cancer, and during breaks in their debate go outside for a drag.  Seriously folks.  Somethings wrong with this picture.

When it comes to politics (especially in my state) it seems the question isn't what's wrong with this picture, it's more is there anything right with it?

No, the "law makers" only say that the public needs to know. It is up to business to spend all the wasted money on reasearch and labeling. The " law makers " then pat themselves on the back and congratulate themselves on a great job.

They are now insisting on installing 19th century tech from one rural town to another non destination town at the cost of billions of dollars when the state is worse than broke. Warning labels are small change.

Life is a deadly thing. I wouldn't be surprised, if the law required all newborns to be tattooed with such a warning label one day in the near future.

Connecticut has attempted to balance their budget also with massive tax increases.  Works in the short term until the people that pay those taxes see the deductions in their wallet and paychecks.  Then they run like hell to another State that isn't as oppressive.

Yup, Socialism is a great thing.  You get alot of neat stuff with other peoples money. Until of course there is none left and no one has a pot to piss in.

Yep, this is what I was meaning in my 19th century project.
HIGH SPEED RAIL from a non destination town in the central valley to another non destination town in the central valley. BILLIONS of dollars, never mind that the court ruled that the funds were not properly allocated, the GOV is going to spend them anyway.

A perfect example of overspending to prosperity, just like the federal gov. Take it all from those who have until there is no more to take from anyone then go bankrupt and start again. This is working well for places, like, Spain, yep, lets follow their example.

But wait, didn't you know that you will be able to get from SF to LA in 30 minutes for 30 dollars, Oh wait, 1 hour for $100, and I actually meant somewhere near SF to somewhere near LA.  Scratch all of that It actually looks like a ticket will be more like $300 and it will take about 2 1/2 hours.  Well I guess I will just drive myself or fly.  At least we son't have any money to spend on it (if that only stopped them), at least it will be good for the farmers (JK).

UH, talk about thread drift.

I think we should move back to the OP topic before an argument gets started. It is fun and games now, we are all seeing the issue from the same side, don't want to step on toes though so I am going to bow out of the CA spending issue. Heck, I only live here, why should I have any say in how they spend the money?
