Subject: rancilio silvia steam thermostat replacement

over the last several months, the steam capability has seemed to degrade.  the heater doesn't kick on till the steam is almost gone.  I've descaled several times but I've never been able to resolve this issue.

so I bought a replacement steam thermostat off amazon, 140 degree.  looking for a step by step guide.

I did see a you tube on resetting the thermostat, and this one has a red button on the top.  the one I bought for $14 did not have a red button.

did I buy the wrong thing?

is there a teardown showing where the thermostat is?

I've had this machine for a couple of years but don't know what version it is.

thanks,
tim

There are several thermostats.  The video you're referring to is for the safety thermostat.  Replacing the steam thermostat is very easy.  You just remove the screws for the steam thermostat and replace.

Espressoparts has a parts diagram and the steam thermostat is part R.1005.

Look at the Auber site.  Shown are sensor replacements for the stats, but you can see "RTDstat" and "PT100M4."  Old style was clip on and newer is screw in.

When did you last descale?

on the silvia you have a165c RESETTABLE safety thermostat (with red or blue depending on the age or any other color push in )
140c steam self reset
100c brew self reset (used to be 110c in older machines)
if you care to see the picture of them you can see them on our web page
