and I wrote the post above wrong, I was going up the alphabet and not down.  In my defense I had not had my espresso yet when I posted.  I will edit the post for future readers.

He wrote me off board and he is using a single shot basket.  I have advised him to do a double shot and gave him more insight on how I run my vario w.  I have to believe at this point it is a grinder problem rather than the Musica.

Thanks for your help Coffeenoobie. Grind might indeed be the issue, but I also was watching the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KvU95d0unQ , and it looked like a hassle-less 1 shot! He was even talking about setting the grind to as fine as possible.

When I was messing with the 1 shot PF, I was setting my grind to up to 5, and still nothing came out.

How are you doing on the double shot basket?  The single shot basket is much more trouble than it is worth.
