I bought a Gaggia Classic based on reivews here on this website. We have been very happy with it. We bought the Gaggia back around 2007. Anyhow, a week or two ago, it died. I called Importika, and they said probably just need to clean a solenoid valve, so I opened it up, but i could not get my big old hands inside the machine to undo the hex nuts, so i sent it to importika, and their quote to fix and replace many of the items, like a pump. solenoid valve, gaskets, and other valves worked out to about $270.
My questions are: does this sound fair. Should have my gaggia lasted longer than 6 years? Should I just buy a new Gaggia or other machine?
It's a shame it lasted 6 years really, still at least you now have the chance to go out and get something nice....look upon this as an opportunity, not a problem. It would be good advice to go out and buy another machine, costing a lot more, but cheaper in the long run and a better machine to use during it's whole ownership life. Spend $1500-$2000 and have a machine that you will own for 20 years+ it will work great and still be working when you are old and grey. If you decide to ever sell it, you will always get decent money for it.
