Bud, I have no issue with anything you said, I kept the advice I gave to the budget that the OP stated. Better SBDU machines are out of the discussion unless bought used and then the mandatory purchase of a better grinder comes into play, the grinder alone exceeds the OPs stated budget.
That said though, better machines do give you better espresso and more consistent shots and are easier to use.
The sad truth is that the most affordable gear requires the most skill and have some of the longest learning curves due to the consessions made to keep the price down.
