Tons of crema but lighter must mean light color? I am not sure that I would worry about color if it tastes good. Hopefully light does not mean lots of blonding?? I use about 17 gms and about 25 - 28 seconds and adjust the grind and tamp for this. You might try about 17 gms if it fits without pushing into the screen. I am using Espressoparts basket

I have a Gaggia "Espresso Model" some what the same as the classic, but no 3-way valve. I use a Baratza Virtuoso grinder. My setting on the grinder is right around 10, sometimes 9.5. I reset my burrs about two years ago. I do get the good 2.0 oz shots in the 23-30 second time slot, 9 seconds from pump on to first flow of coffee.
