im wondering if any Rancilio Silvia espresso machine owners have experienced this...? I've had my machine for about a year. LOVE IT. But the black metal sides of the base, where the drip tray slides in is rusting horribly! And because of the rust, it has warped which makes it very difficult to slide the drip tray in and out. Im distraught because everything about this machine is perfect and in great shape. I take care of it and it has never been left soaking or in water. Does any one have any thoughts or suggestions as to how I can fix/replace/remedy the problem? Id appreciate any help at all!! Thanks!

I had a silvia for 5 years before i sold it and it did not have 1 bit of rust on it. It does not mean though that i am any cleaner or take care of my machine better.. Looks like maybe a bad run of powder coating where the steel frame was not prepped properly before powder coating it.. Powder coated steel should be sand blasted to remove scale, primed with zinc primer, then powdered. Zinc primer is often skipped as a cost saving measure. But then the powder flakes off after a few years if exposed to any moisture.

I doubt ranchillio would do anything for you. I would sand off that section of rusted flaking paint and use a good enamel on it.   Tremclad in a can, the brush on kind, is quite good and should solve an rusting issues. Its thick and adheres well.
