So I was curious about time it takes between turning the pump on and first drip. On my Oscar, it's a really long time. It can last between 7-10 seconds, but the shot isn't necessarily choked. However, if I start a shot RIGHT AFTER a boiler autofill cycle, I get an almost immediate flow of espresso. Is this just how the Oscar works, or is my flushing routine messing things up?
When my boiler is full, it takes ~5 seconds. If I use the steamer to make a latté and don't manually refill the boiler afterwards (my machine does not autofill, filling only occurs when pump runs), it might take 10 or even more seconds. I've made it a habit to pull some water through the grouphead after steaming as shot quality suffers when I start with a partially full boiler due to temperature inconsistency.
I don't recalling pulling a shot right after boiler fill but if the heater kicks on it slows down my pour due to voltage I believe. I was thinking heater when I said this. I believe it will not fill the boiler while pulling.
Mine takes 3-5 seconds to start dripping and if the pump fills the boiler during the pull I get slower flow not more....
