Posted Mon Mar 18, 2013, 3:48pm Subject: Brewtus Expobar III..OPV valve leaking? (is this even model III?)
Greetings espresso aficionados and coffee gods.
I humbly request assistance.
Here's my story.
It was a dark, and stormy night....
And deep within the recesses of the company kitchen, sat a Brewtus Expobar III. At least, that's what it looked like.
(skip epic story)
and so! My company site was closed down, with myself winning the raffle for the Expobar III, from 2008. The label calls it a Leva 2, 1250w IPX2 (?). Two 1.5lieter boilers.
But it has a few problems. The machine heats up, reaches a certain pressure point, and not blasts, but hisses out steam. At which point, it continues to hiss for a good long while, then it stops. Rinse and repeat.
The condensation that builds up due to that, has collected at the top, and dropped onto certain parts--and melted a few things, but the machine is otherwise operable.
So! While I think I have found the symptom, I'm unsure of the cause.
If my logic is right, (correct me if I'm wrong)---the OPV value, while constantly leaking, could be operating normally, and it may just be that the machine is sending too much pressure. Second, it could simply be that the solenoid isn't working well.
The machine was descaled recently, but the water is AWFUL---it killed a pump recently, so there is potentially, something causing the solenoid to be sticky?
I can take it apart--but, any advice on unsticking a solenoid? Or something I'm missing?
