I have read up quite a bit on PIDs, and I will make sure to have a good look through that Forum post, thanks! Is there any particular go-to site for PID parts/kits for a Gaggia Classic? Auberins looked quite good (but it seems his site is down atm due to an issue with ZenCart?!)
The Auber PID probably has the best instructions for setting up the PID. Wiring in the machine is similar in Auber and clones. You may enjoy the mod thread for the Gaggia. Walking through Brianl's install is about the last 1/3 of the thread, fairly detailed. I would not get a cheap Ebay or similar clone unless you are sure that you understand the PID controller instructions. Also beware that the pictures sometimes represent several similar looking PID controllers and the description under it will determine which item you actually get. Read the thread before you decide. You can do simple idle brew temperature, add steam control, and I added heat with pump to stop intrashot drop. That means a PID controller with 3 functions.
