Do keep us informed.  I am glad to hear that the issue was solved by switching to a different machine.  This way, hopefully you have a machine you like and the dealer still has made his sale and can claim that the noise was normal.
I hope Alex performs admirably.

I agree with ECM.  That doesn't sound good.  I would get it checked out as well!  Good luck!

I'm looking at the R58 (as well as Duetto III and Giotto Evo) and this thread has me rethinking it, however; I will ask since I did not see it posted.  Was this R58 the new V2?

Yes mine was the V2 Model, the only issue I had was the Pump noise, the new one as well as the one they replaced.
But I am guessing it is hit an miss because other people do not get the noise I had.

Interesting, thanks for responding.  I'm looking also looking at the Duetto 3 and maybe even the Giotto Evo V2. How are you liking the Izzo?

On a side note, I just called SCG and spoke with a female (sounds like the camera operator on the videos) and felt like I was bothering them asking a few questions before I spent $$$$. I know I will not be buying from them. Maybe an off day, but not a good first impression and enough for me to spend my money elsewhere.  I know Chris Coffee is good, what about Clive Coffee? Emails seem to be good. Thanks in advance.

I have heard just the opposite . . . staff & tech's I've spoke with at a few distributors have NOT recommended the Rocket machines!  They felt the build quality and reliability was not as good as some of their other brands!   I guess it all depends on who you talk to on any given day . . .

They seem to steer folks to Rocket machines over anything else, i know several that have posted negative reviews on their machine websites but the reviews are not posted. They dont always give you the good & bad when you call them.

I agree.  I'm leaning towards the Duetto 3.0 and La Spaziale now.  If the LS had a plum and tank option in one, it would make it easier.  I'm using a tank until we move and then will plum.  Well, we may plum early but don't wan't to mess everything up now.

I've talked to different staffs from diff distributors about R58 V2 before I decided to buy it.  From those carrying it, tons of compliments. For those not carrying it, all I got was the negatives from V1 (and with recommendation of the models they are selling).  I don't blame them but I would trust more on the information shared here.

I end up choosing R58 vs Duetto 3 because of the look.  I've seen tons of discussions on the performance of every model here (because this is coffeegeek.com).  Still, there are 23 hours of every day that the machine just sits there as a piece of furniture in the kitchen/living room.  It has to do more than just making good coffee if I have to spend thousands on it.

Is R58 perfect?  No, and I've shared it in my other post.  But when I fail to make a good shot, I would blame more on my tamping skill than the machine.

You made a good choice as I said many times if it was not for that noise I would have stayed with the r58.I think the temp controll is much better then the Alex.
