The original patent is here. You might read through that. I assume that the "group thermal balancing system" is the heat exchange system that saturates the group and keeps it at temperature, but the "adjustable" part I do not know. I do not think it is user adjustable, but that is all just a guess. Might be something like the flow restrictor that the factory can add to the thermosyphon tube....?

My commercial Faema Legend has a small adjustable restrictor valve in the thermosyphon loop, to allow for adjusting the natural heating flow through the group. I wonder if that is what you're asking about...?
The valve itself is certainly not new and novel now, but perhaps the system of adjusting the thermosyphon on the E61 was patented at some time in the past.
