]Does it make sense to spend $7000 on a GS/3 when there are cafes closing down that sell used (but multiple groupheads) Marzoccos? Or at the very least, perhaps a single grouphead machine at a bargain?
What other machines besides the GS/3 is a dream machine for home use?

What do you want? If you just simply must have a GS3 then yes it is worth it, if you don't care and just want a good machine, then you have a lot of other options, one is not "better" than the other or a "higher class" of machine, it comes down to what you want to look at, what you have room for and what connections you have when you get into this price range of machine. There is a fairly long list when you get into single group commercial class machines that I would like to have. On the top of my "dream list" is http://www.synesso.com/default.aspx?ID=8 but then, that is just me.
