My machine is leaking underneath back side of machine (where all the hoses are). It only leaks sometimes but I wake up to a small puddle once a week and that's no so good.
I popped off the cover today and all the hose fittings look tight to me but I did notice a small puddle about the size of a quarter underneath the part - valve or filter thing - that I've attached. As you can see in tyne photo, this piece contains a chamber with a micro filter which now a few coffee grinds lodged therein. Could this be a possible leak source and need replacing or is it simply doing what it's supposed to do and I need to look elsewhere? Also, does its orientation matter? I ask because when I blow air through it (with mouth), one direction has much better flow, leading me to believe it could be a pressure thing and it might matter a lot. And stupid me forgot which way it goes.

Just a tiny inline filter to prevent any coffeegrounds or other small solids that might fall into your reservoir from getting into your pump. You can run the machine without it, so long as you keep your water clean. (Ie. Connect the two loose ends of flexible hose to anything that will replace the leaky filter. You can probably buy a new one from anyone who sells Rocket products. It is in the Giottos and presumably other machines, also. If it is leaking, you should be able to tell when you remove it. Block one end with a fingertip and suck hard on the other end. If you can't form a vacuum and just get constant airflow, then the plastic is cracked and the filter should be replaced (Or slathered in JB Weld until you can get a new one. If it costs more than $9.00 someone is ripping you off.

Suction is there. It's airtight.
Back to the drawing board. I suspect I should attempt to better catch the leak in the act...as in remove the top after I see a ton of water and hope I can narrow it to a fitting with moisture.
It all looks fine so.....

I have to say again that I'm unfamiliar with the Cellini, but I expect that it is internally very similar to my Giotto... So the watertank has a valve in the bottom that is opened by the grounded brass stick in a cup under the watertank (that also provides ground to your reservoir probe). If this is so, then there is probably a breather-tube that rises up beside your reservoir. This allows the watertank to be pushed down into place and pullled up out of the machine without causing vacuum or pressures that could blow hoses off of fittings. If you push the watertank down quickly, you will get a spurt of water out of the top of this breather-tube. In new giottos, there's a silly little attempt at a check valve in the tip, but it still spurts.
Try using the machine with the back and top off. If you can't find any leaks, it might be the breather tube spurting when you put the watertank in.
