Hi everyone
Santa brought me an espresso machine for Christmas, however I am having a few problems. When I use one shot and to up with water to make an Americano it is REALLY weak. When I use two shots it improves it slightly but it's still not Starbucks or costa strength! I have bough some Starbucks espresso branded beans but his does not make and difference, anyone got any ideas?

Hi and welcome This is a hobby that gets very technical very quickly. First the age of your beans is very important. The rule of 15s says. GREEN UNROASTED beans are good for 15 months Roasted beans are good for about 15 DAYS Ground beans are good for 15 MINUTES FROM THE TIME THEY WERE GROUND
You NEED a grinder ABLE TO GRIND FOR ESPRESSO
I know you already have a machine but please read the FAQ on how to buy an espresso machine, it will answer questions you don't even know to ask.

Did you use freshly roasted and freshly ground coffee or pre-ground? How much coffee powder did you use for your shots? What was the extraction/percolation time? How much water for your Americanos?
These are the traditional Italian recipes:
7 g coffee + 25 ml water = Caffè espresso
7 g coffee + 25 ml water + 25-50 ml hot water (added after extraction) = Caffè americano
