Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere but:
I need to get a semi-automatic espresso machine but I have no use for the milk part (due to lactose intolorance). We would only like to make espressos and ristrettos, maximum 6 in a row but usually just 2. The machine may of course have milk equipments, but in comparisons with others no weight should be given to them.
I know I need a good grinder, so some money is reserved to that, but which espresso machine should I choose?
Locally I have seen advertisements of the following:

Welcome to CoffeeGeek!
Lactose intolerance is no reason to completely disregard espresso based milk drinks, because you can use lactose free milk or even soy milk to make cappuccinos or lattes as well.
As far as I know all espresso machines have a steam wand. But if you're really going to make only espressos and ristrettos, a SBDU machine will indeed suffice. Out of the machines you mentioned the Ascaso Steel Uno Prof will probably be the best, if you decide to take the model that comes equipped with a PID ex factory. Apart from that the Ascaso might be considered equal to the Rancilio Silvia, being the Spanish version so to speak.

True, but when I started drinking coffee more that 40 years ago there were no other options. I did not fee good after coffee and milk so I slowly developed an aversion to the combination. Back to Machinery:

OK. The Ascaso does not seem to have a PID, so maybe I will choose Rancilio Silvia. It seems to be quite popular and maybe I can install a PID later. And I can invest the price difference to the grinder.
