I got a Gaggia Classic of ebay with a Rancillio steam wand upgrade, it all works well but the Steam knob came broken (it looked as if this happened in transit) I got a new knob however it looks like the bit it clicks into (i.e. the metal baton) is no longer in the centre of the recess/ hole of the machine, therefore the knob will not fit in, any suggestions? anyone heard of this or know how I could move the "baton"?

If you look at this image, you can see the steam control at the bottom right. It's a longish brass fitting running from the top of the boiler, where it's attached with two Allen bolts, to the far right, with the steam wand connection coming off at the copper pipe in the middle of the fitting. If it's off center, then it's either bent, or not screwed down right (I suspect the latter). Unplug the machine, let it cool if hot, and take the top off the machine and have a look at that fitting. If it's at an angle, then you may have enough play on the fitting on top the boiler to reposition it straight. The copper pipe to the steam wand might be holding it to one side, so you may have to apply some force against that.
