I didn't say it was bashing.  My comment was that I (as a BDB owner) don't go to the QM thread and post my negative opinions of their machines.

I really don't see why non-BDB owner's feel compelled to post in this thread.  Is the title of the thread confusing?  Is our purchase of this machine somehow insulting to you such that you feel a need to post here?

In expressing regret for the closure of the original BDB thread, he insinuates that he has something more to say on the advantages, or rather disadvantages, that the BDB suffers from in comparison with a rival product, the QM Silvano; a product he owns.
The next quote:

"Still rocking along with my QM Silvano - just sayin'..."

is a clear jab at BDB owners in light of the recent shortcoming of the machine, posted in a BDB owner's thread, so YES, this constitutes as bashing. Clear?

At this point, I have three issues with the BDB:

  1. The firmware in the early machines was buggy, and there's no way for the owner to update it on his own.

  2. The warranty is non-transferable. It shouldn't matter who the original purchaser was if the machine has a design defect like the crappy code.

  3. The seals between the two halves of the solenoid are badly designed.

Breville is totally unhelpful and the service center doesn't inspire confidence. The counter help asked me if the machine has a grinder in it. Duh.

The fact that the housing is plastic doesn't bother me, it's not a functional part of the machine so steel panels aren't worth the cost.

I like the electronics in the machine, it's the code that seems to be a problem. But we'll see what happens at the service center.

"I've Scaced many HX/E61 machines, seeing shot variances of up to 8-10F or more. [The BDB] stays within 1F." - Mark Prince

Are you looking to start arguments here? Your posts are not very productive either for that matter

I think trying to get the thread back on track to being a discussion among BDB *owners* is productive.

Have you tried to escalate this a little higher along the customer service chain?  I expect you are getting the front-line rote scripts from some call center monkey.

I don't see why this is hard to understand.  The BDB owner's thread should be for owners to discuss problems, solutions, tips, tricks, etc.  What is the point of having someone who doesn't even own the machine come in and gloat about how their machine is still working, or to discuss the limitations they see of the BDB, or whatever?  Those make sense in a discussion where someone is considering one machine or another, but why have that here?  Presumably, everyone here already has the machine.

I know this is too late to help you but for anyone else that may be in this predicament...just tell Breville you got it as a gift that way you don't have to show them proof of where or when you purchased it and they won't deny you a replacement.
