I guess I should clarify this... My previous statement was a little overgeneralized and not clear enough.
Used commercial machines can be cheaper than new consumer and prosumer machines in certain circumstances.
For example, A Nuova Simonelli Appia machine typically goes for between $3200 to $4500 here, depending on who is selling it, the markup involved, etc. However, I've seen used late 1990's era Nuova Simonelli MAC machines, which are pretty much equivalent to the Appia in terms of capability, selling for roughly around $800.

This particular machine requires a 220 volt 15 amp circuit because it draws 3200 watts at full power. It also requires a plumbed in connection. This machine is selling for $1200. However, brand new, this is a $3000 machine. I can see why the seller hasn't moved this machine quickly. It's not like anyone will just get an electrician to come in to put in another 220 volt circuit in their kitchen.
In comparison, I've seen used prosumer machines which are in this used price range. This is the example I meant to convey. I've seen so many late 1990's/early 2000's vintage commercial machines selling for prices which astound me, but not everyone has the room and the capability to accommodate a 2-group plumb-in only 220 volt machine in their kitchen, yet there are so many which are selling for less than $1k because of that.
