Posted Tue Dec 4, 2012, 9:52am Subject: Help with Saeco Odea Giro
Just bought a reconditioned Saeco Odea Giro to replace an old manual that was losing pressure; it's my first automatic, and while I'm still futzing with the water/coffee ratio, I'm satisfied with the espresso it outputs while in love with the time-savings, and I admit the price was in my comparatively-limited range, including a 1-year warranty. However, I have a few questions:
1) How does one clean the grinder? The manual doesn't mention it at all. The locally-roasted coffee I prefer (which I will cheerfully mention in my sixth post or so) is somewhat oily, so I routinely clean my external grinder, and certainly should clean the internal grinder in this one. But then, the manual doesn't mention how to clean the output nozzles, either, other than wiping them with a wet rag...
2) The steamed milk from this machine is terrible; the panarello heats the milk fine and makes a cosmetically-ok froth on top, but it doesn't have the rich feel of properly-textured milk...instead, it's a little staryucks-like in being hot milk with big bubbles on top. Anyone know of a replacement wand that will fit this machine without a lot of re-engineering (keeping that warranty in mind)? I've searched, and found nothing, but I may be looking in the wrong places.
