Hello, all. I have a 1 year old Quick Mill Vetrano that I have descaled for the first time. I took apart the E61 to check for scale (this is the most suceptable part of the entire machine). If you are familiar with the E61 head, the "mushroom" the nickel plating seems to have started to ware in a few spots, and I can see the brass.
After descaling, I ran it with water for a long time, and noticed what appeared to be nickel flakes. After running water for a few more minutes, the flakes started to disappear.
Should I be worried that I will start ingesting nickel? Is this unusuall? Any thoughts on this would be apprecaited.

The mushroom is not necessarily the most susceptible, but it is an easy-to-remove part that indicates the condition of the system in general. Once the plating on the 'shroom starts to come off it will continue to do so. When my VBM DS started doing that I took the part out to the garage and removed the rest of the plating using a powered wire wheel brush on a buffer motor. While the basket and coffee will filter out the bits of metal, If for no other reason, I would remove the plating to keep it from being sent through the rest of the group or clogging the gicleur.
