I was saving my money and about to buy a Lelit machine (pl041), and I came across this beauty on craigslist (actual picture). A Riviera Eagle. The guy says that it works well on the page, and is selling it for a very reasonable price ($250). I was wondering what people think is a better idea. I am not intimidated that it is a manual machine, in fact I would love to learn. But I want to know if this machine going to last, and if it is worth the money to spend on it. Would it just be better to go with my original plan and buy the lelit. Either would be a significant upgrade to my Krups Gusto (semi-auto).
I love the look of the machine and I would pick it up for that price but I would probably use it like someone with a cool vintage car... just on sunny weekends. I would probably use my Oscar for everyday espresso.

I happen to own an almost identical machine, with the exception that mine is stainless instead of brass. Make sure you insist on testing it when you buy, as the water level glass on mine was cracked when I got mine (also off craigslist, at $300). Parts for these machines are actually inexpensive and easy to find on Orphan Espresso. I don't know how to rate the machine.. it is mostly a decorative piece that I tinker with on occasion. I haven't made a very good shot with it, though that may be due to not enough practice. As far as function, it works perfectly well. You will also need to invest in a tamper which will fit the basket as it is not a standard size.
