It's been said already but just agreeing, you are definitely missing parts. Those linked above are the correct ones. It would likely "work" and make espresso without them, but it's not quite right. Definitely not something you should have to deal with unless you bought it as "parts only".
I've sold a few Classics on ebay, I can assure you this one wasn't from me! Not that it helps you at all... Hopefully the buyer will work with you, otherwise you may be looking at having to return it for a refund. Ebay / Paypal are normally pretty good about that. Keep it in mind if you start making any changes or throwing extra money at it.

Thanks. I've now replaced the parts (and the seller agreed to reimburse me). And I adjusted the overpressure value (although I simply turned it 3/4 counterclockwise and am hoping it's about right, since I don't have a pressure gauge at this point). The shots are better but still not great. One other thing: The portafilter is extremely tight, almost impossible to get into the head and twist once the machine is hot and the filter has coffee. The seller was up front in the posting that he bought replacement parts, and I would assume the portafilter is a replacement, perhaps not the right one. It has a number 10 on it, and it takes all my strength to twist it to between 7 and 6 o'clock.

Is it different with coffee and without? Could you be overfilling and contacting the screen? I only mention it because you specified difficult "hot and the filter has coffee."
