Hi,

First post here, but have been reading for ages.... I bought a used Oscar off of eBay, looks to be in pretty good condition.  It was stated to be set up for pods... before I received the machine, I searched around the web and ordered the "pod to ground" conversion kit from Chris Coffee (great peeps BTW).  I had read (and the folks at Chris Coffee confirmed) that it was pretty simple to change over from pod to grounds.  I also order a new portafilter and basket.

Received the machine last night and I'm baffled.  The brew group and the portafilter it contained looked nothing like I've seen on the web, or in the Oscar manual (which was in the box as well).  I'm trying to switch it to grounds.... I've attached a picture of the portafilter and brew head... Is this possible?  I can return the machine within 15 days... I'm mechanically inclined, but if it's going to be $300+ to convert the machine, I'll just buy a new one.

Appreciate any suggestions / advice on converting.

Thanks so much.

Greg

I saw that auction on ebay too and I was wondering why the grouphead looked so different.  Also the portafilter it came with looked like a smaller diameter than the usual one the Oscar comes with.  Anyway does the lower part of the grouphead unscrew?  I would try to unscrew it first.

That doesn't look stock.  See if you can undo it.  You can replace the brew head if needed.  Not sure what you paid for it is worth it or not.

I couldn't remove the lower part.. it didn't unscrew with moderate effort and I dont want to scratch it up.  It looks like someone modified it to take capsules or something (a crime).  I paid $450 for it ($50 was shipping), but I'm going to return it (I have to pay another $50 to ship it back).   If I have replace the head, buy new portafilters..etc...  I'm pushing the price of a new unit (and will have a warranty).  I thought about looking under the hood, it looks like it's only a few screws, but I don't want to give the seller any reason to reject my return.

I still think this is the machine I want, but I'm going to bite the bullet and get a new one.  On a side note, I bought a new Preciso in anticipation of the Oscar and it's great.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
