I am having a problem with my Starbucks Barista. It heats up and the ready light comes, when I press the button to pull the shot the pump runs but no water comes through the pressurized portafilter. When I remove the portafilter I can hear pressure release and water sprays out. Water comes through the screen if run the machine with the portafilter off. I have tried two separate portafilters with the same result. I think that my pump might be weakening but I don't know. Any ideas?
Descaling is indeed the first line of action, Does sound like your pump is weak or could also be that your pressurized portafilter mechanism is all gummed up and is not opening when it should or both, however in both instances you should have quite a bit of back pressure when you disengage the portafilter form the grouphead
OK I tried descaling my machine twice using Dezcal following the instructions on the Starbucks website. No improvement. I can't believe I have had that machine for 7 and a half years, used it daily and have never descaled it. Not very smart. I might have to take it in to a shop now. I thought about just replacing the pump but I'm not sure that would help.

I take that as a warning for me as well. I've been using my machine for over a month now and haven't descaled it. I'm sure the previous owners have never descaled it either.
At any rate, I guess you could change the pump and see if things improve. Sending it off for repair will likely be expensive, considering how much the thing weighs. Or you could DIY. There's a pretty good tear down of the Barista online at I think ifixit.com
