breville is now selling the dual boiler WITHOUT the plastic insert. They no longer include it on their machines. Therefore, it would not void your warranty.
The plastic seems to have been some thing to affect temperature.
Removing it doesn't affect the spring at all. If you look back towards the beginning of this thread there is a lot of discussion about how to remove it.
Has anyone gotten this message on their machine before? This happened on my previous machine (which they swapped out), and when it comes up it cannot be powered off without unplugging. I will be contacting Breville to see what's up but I thought I would check in with other owners....
Nice catch! I've read so much that I forgot that one. Never discovered the end result and would really like to. Breville will swap the Machine out but that doesn't quite satisfy me because I like to know why things are happening.
Got it up to 7bar! Pressure started at 3-4, bumped up to 7 at the end, 25seconds.
Yeah, it's not there, but it's a lot closer. And I've got one more grind setting to go.
I think I'm closer to believing it's more the beans than me. I'm just a bit surprised that getting Starbucks espresso beans off the shelf at a Costco would make it so hard to produce good espresso. I knew it would be worse/harder, but I didn't think it would be *that* much.
Still wondering if most of the issue is me, but I notice that no one else with a precisio seems to be down in the 1-2 range (mostly in the 9-10 range).
Also started more aggressively tapping the portafilter before tapping, which may have helped.
Have you checked the upper burr holder on your Preciso? This is pretty much the main symptom of a cracked upper burr holder, which is the first part to fail on them. It's $2 for a replacement from Baratza. New to (very) old beans is about a 2 click adjustment on mine when it's working properly.

Well.... Kudos to Breville Customer support. Another Machine is on it's way. That being said, I am disappointed to have a second machine with the Err1 message in a three month period. Aside from one post that does not seem to come up a lot so hopefully this means that I have simply been unlucky. Otherwise I am loving this machine and would like to continue to enjoy it....
