I found these useful for supplies and technique.  My most difficult part wan getting the double ears off the threaded portion of the portafilter.  It is firmly in place and you need a vice and some padding.  It had some thread lock, so continued to come off slowly.

you can use just an elbow and gauge, but with the valve you can set up a leak/bleed rate to simulate a shot pull and set dynamic pressure, or see how different, a little, it is from static.

thanks,yeah seen that video.

I have just found a supplier of a gauge here, just ordered one,I would prefer to make this as simply as possible,if I went for the non value option I would still be able to get a true reading?

90 degree elbow, portafilter to guage will work.  You can still similate flow with a calibrated bleed through the steam wand while running the pump.  Your 60-70 ml in 25 seconds through the steam wand while measuring pressure.  Otherwise just measure static and make around 10.  Some disagreement about actual static value.

You may already know about filled vs non filled gauge.  The nonfilled is a little bouncy but easily readable for this and is cheap.  You set it once and may occasionally check it if you suspect a problem, but in practice, set and forget unless you have a brew/flow problem.

Pushes?  Screws on snuggly to measure those pressures.

You will soon find that it is difficult to remove, though not bad with a vise and padding.  Mostly due to thread lock.  I used teflon tape on the new fitting and they are easy.  I left off the double spout when done.

will be moving to a bottomless PF soon, shame the gauge wouldn't work with one of those.
