@haunce sorry man I only wish I could have brought this issue to light earlier, but at least we are all aware of it and it will get addressed  one way or another.

In addition I think the responsible thing to do is to have some investigation done as to whether the residue is toxic or not.  That I feel should take precedence over fixing it.  It seems there are a number of customers who have been ingesting this stuff.

After talk with DavecUK, he recommend me to remove the insulation. (In case anyone does not know, Dave is the designer of the Duetto, and he recommend to insulate the steam bolier, but of course not with the material that Izzo has been used).

The insulation is very easy to remove, and it does not leave glue residue in the boiler walls. The insulation is a combination of rubber with a metal foil. The glue is used to joint this two parts, and a little more glue to joint two parts of the rubber, but it does not touch the boiler.

Dave recommends to wipe down the inside steel panels and the outside of the boilers with a cloth little soaked (very little, you don't want to soak the machine) with acetone, thinners or nail varnish remover to remove any residue. Avoid electric components, wiring, plastics, water tank, silicones tubes... I did this, but I taked all the external casing (External and internal panels) and I throw it into the shower. :) Also I did a deep clean (with water and soap) the water tank and lid, and also the exterior of the silicone tubes (specially the one that goes into the water tank)

The insulation seems to be made from a material called "Aerstop". Which according to this web: http://www.tekspan.it/materiali/aerstop-m.html Have a max working temperature of 120ºC

Big thanks to Dave for helping me.

So the material can withstand 248 degrees Fahrenheit. 7 degrees below the default temp setting of the steam boiler. Somebody at izzo dropped the ball big time.

Yes, and that's the spec only for the rubber. We don't know nothing about the epoxy used to joint the rubber & metal foil, which as you can see in my pic, it looks pretty nasty.

Unbelievable.

I pulled off the insulation and am proceeding to clean the inside of the machine.  Till we get some definitive answers I will run the coffee boiler only.

I noticed that the foil was somewhat brown after removing it.

I cut off my insulation too. I can't feel any residue on the boiler itself or on any components around it. In fact, the only place I can feel the oily residue is on the inside of the remove-able shell. So all in all not too bad. Lets just hope this epoxy stuff or whatever is causing the fumes isn't really bad if you ingested a little from being on the cups..

I disassembled the entire shell and wiped down that with rubbing alcohol as well as the two lids and the steam boiler. Gave the reservoir and tube a good cleaning too. Should be good to go.

Hy all
Me too I removed the cover and I saw the very little quantity of "oil" in the interior  wall of cover, only right side.
I dont fell any smoke, fumes, but I used only 20 minutes max from day the steam boiler.
Is not good to read about something...nobody want to have a chemical bomb in kitchen.
My alex function good from the moment, I rezolved the problem with water level in steam boiler, and all is ok.
Is good if the "expert" users from our forum search and find another simple and eficient material from insulation and put here all information. How I know the napoletan ( Izzo is made in NApoli, Italy) politic, is very probably we dont have any help from Izzo :)

Just playing devil's advocate here, but isn't that jumping the gun a bit too early?  Why not just wait for Chris to reply since he is in direct contact with the manufacturer? What if the issue was not related to the insulation afterall?

Both he and a few other guys recommend to insulate the steam boiler around the sides and top.  Insulating the brew boiler is not recommended because they found it promotes temperature overshoots.
