dman777 Said:

As far as aesthetics go on pulling a shot, the Silvia can pull beautiful shots consistently before the beans get mid age. Although this does not represent taste . . .

Posted February 13, 2012 link

Right.  Who cares?  How does it taste?

dman777 Said:

I am using VST baskets which contribute to good crema.

Posted February 13, 2012 link

How would you know?

dman777 Said:

But I was getting good crema with the stock basket also.

Posted February 13, 2012 link

Exactly!

dman777 Said:

. . . it's good to know the Silvia is way capable of producing it when the beans are young.

Posted February 13, 2012 link

Any decent machine is.

dman777 Said:

NOTE: Alot of people will flame me for focusing on Crema. I'm not saying that crema is everything. It just something I personally enjoy looking at aesthetically.

Posted February 13, 2012 link

Darin?  Repeat after me:  "Looks are one thing; taste is another.  How does it taste?"

The point, Darin, is one can still have a delicious shot with little or even no crema.  It does happen.  No one is flaming you for focusing on the crema, but several of us are trying to point you in the right direction.  (Several others have, apparently, given up.)

dman777 Said:

I still haven't tested my crema with course sugar to see if it floats for a minute before sinking. That is one thing I need to do.

Posted February 13, 2012 link

Why?

dman777 Said:

I compared a shot from a shot at my local coffee shop La Marzocco using the same coffee and shot glass(I asked them to use mine for my shot). In my opinion, the flavors were about 20-30% more bold, 25% clearer from the La Marzocco, and the La Marzocco was about 20-25% thicker. It should be noted I compared my shot 16 grams to theirs which as about 21 grams. So, there you go....a $500.00 machine versus one probably over $10,000.00.

Posted February 13, 2012 link

Which proves what, exactly?

The only fair comparison, Darin, would be if YOU pulled the shot on the La Marzocco and on the Silvia WITH the same beans at the same time.  Otherwise, this proves exactly nothing . . .

Care to explain why you are stalking dmann777?
I don't appreciate having to read through all of your trash talk every time dmann777 participates in a discussion.
I enjoy reading his comments, but your negative responses to everything he says just comes off as harassment. It is immature and is not helpful in the least.
In other words, you're acting like a troll again.

Simply put, Darin posts a) often useless information as important; b) mis-information or opinion as fact; and c) focuses on the wrong information while sounding like an expert, thereby potentially misleading true "newbies" seeking advice.

simply put, jason posts a) often snide comments because he can't help it; b) has a problem accepting this fact and usually puts the blame elsewhere; c) focuses on boosting his number of posts by copying and pasting the same responses while sounding like a jerk, thereby potentially discouraging true "newbies" from seeking advice on here again.

your not the only one that feels this way. i guess it's just something we have to deal with. :(

What a load of crap.
Darin (dmann777) has never tried to pass himself off as an expert.
He posts about his espresso journey, using his own personal experiences with his newly purchased Rancilio Silvia.
And he is enjoying his journey with his Rancilio Silvia. And who better to tell us about the Rancilio Silvia?
Certainly not you! You are no authority on the Rancilio Silvia!
But you sure do take offense to the fact that he is enjoying his!
Maybe that is because you have spent so much time on here singing the same one-note song, trying to talk people out of buying a Rancilio Silvia.
It seems like, based on all of the people here who have recently bought a Silvia, that you have been passing off a lot of bad advice (i.e. Wrong Information)!
Because there are a lot of people here who have ignored your bad advice (i.e. Wrong Information) and purchased a Rancilio Silvia, and found out that they like it very much!!

What's hilarious is, since when did this Jason person become the authority on what is expert advice and what isn't?
I mean, I have read many of this Jason person's posts and they all seem the same. I never once got the feeling I was reading the words of an expert.
Maybe I should be an expert.
Poof!
Okay, I am now officially an expert! Self-Ordained!
Hey Jason! Stop trying to pretend you're an expert like me!

Sorry to be honest with you Bill, cause I think you're a nice guy, but.... You're pretty famous on these boards for your insane trolling about how great the Silvia is and all the times you've constantly wasted peoples time with long threads about how there is some conspiracy against your beloved Silvia and Le Lit's are the work of the devil and are inferior, etc. etc. etc.

As a result, when you label someone else as a troll (regardless of who it is) my only thought is “Pot, meet Kettle”.

Jason might have sounded a little harsh in his delivery, I'll give you that. But Darin's posts are some of the most random I've encountered on this board. While I don't think he's proclaiming himself an expert, many of the posts are so vague and random that I can't tell whether he's asking for advice, giving advice, or posting just to post. Kind of like speaking just to hear the sound of your own voice. I have tried to ignore these because Darin is new here and I want him to stick around and grow and learn with us. His posts could be more focused though and take up less of the board. This is my personal opinion and not a reflection on him.
