I recently descaled and back flushed my Rancilio Audrey. Since then it appears as if something has gone wrong. Instead of 5-6 seconds before the water starts coming out, it can take up to 10 seconds for the pressure to build up enough to start the extraction.
So I wonder if something might be dislodged or if I possibly broke something inside the machine? Could the pump have been damaged?
Looks like the OPV was seized, likely before the back flush. So I get he impression that the pump itself took the brunt of the back flush pressure. I tried servicing the pump by taking it apart. Not sure but nothing seems amiss, though there are some sealed parts I can't really open.
It's funny, I bought a Rancilio Nancy Saturday (for the pump, it was 20$). So I take it apart and clean and check everything. They OPV on this one is jammed as well! That's kind of funny, looks like something that happens. But even more interesting is that the previous owner had wired a diode to one of the legs of the pump. I didn't get why the hell he would ever do such a thing, until I noticed the OPV. I suppose with a seized OPV, you would get too much pressure, so to regulate it, he halved the pump's power by putting a diode in series with one of the legs! Pretty crazy idea in my opinion. Anyhow, I am descaling and will have to open up the OPV.
PS: The difference between a Nancy and an Audrey appear to be: - Nancy has a terrible steam arm. I'm not sure how it is even supposed to work, it might be missing an o-ring, but the collar just seems to completely clamp down on the wand and make it immovable. - Nancy doesn't have a water tank level indicator (but that means that the lamp shows when the element is on/off) - Nancy doesn't have a water softener - Nancy DOESN'T HAVE A EMERGENCY THERMOSTAT
