Hi guys, I havea rotary pumped machine, and was wondering if there's any way to make it even more quiet. It's already quiet, but I want it to be SUPER SILENT.
Many commercial machines have the pump removed from the body and connected by a hose (and electrical wire). This way the pump can be under the counter while the machine stays on top, and the operation is very quiet.
But in general, the way to reduce the noise from the pump inside the machine is to isolate the pump vibration from the machine case. This is often done with rubber mounts to attach the pump to the frame, so maybe you could do something similar or add to the rubber by using something like DynaMat between the existing rubber mounts and the frame (Dynamat is a vibration dampening material used for mounting stereo speaker boxes)

Why do you need to make the rotary pump quieter? I am guessing that you have a good grinder that is substantially more noisy than your rotary pump. Am I wrong?

Hi Werbin, Good question. Let me answer by stating that yes, I do own a relatively quiet grinder in a Mazzer Mini, which is in fact noisier than the pump.
Why would I want to make the rotary pump quieter? Well, only because I am a Coffeegeek and espresso lover, and by default a perfectionist, so naturally I would want to spend copious amounts of money to improve performance by miniscule amounts, and spend hours doing modifications that no one other than the people who access this site would even appreciate.
I suppose that's why I would want to make my rotary pump slightly quieter, but you knew that anyway!
