I'm very surprised you get accurate results with the gauge you have shown. I found that I had to go to a liquid filled gauge to get accurate readings. The non-liquid filled one bounced the needle around so badly that I couldn't really read the pressure correctly. A liquid filled gauge solved that problem nicely, but they are definitely more expensive.
Also I would recommend adding teflon tape at each junction.

yep, surprisingly this cheap dry gauges are accurate... here is another one I made 4 espresso machines ago.. use it a lot and still works w/o any problem.. Click Here (www.youtube.com) as you can see no bouncing needle..
in my hands-on experience with few of this cheap air gauges they work ok with hot water. this one I put together today was pretty beat up, use it for few different things, and still gave me an accurate ridding. As you can see there, no much to go wrong on an air gauge..;) Click Here (i215.photobucket.com) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcXZ388Dxic
