Espresso: Gaggia Carezza

Subject: Espressione Caffe Novecento???

Hi!

I saw this is on sale on Costco.com for $399 (normal retail $499).  But only one review on WLL, none here, a couple on Amazon.

Is this a new machine?  Does anyone know anything about it?

I am an advanced beginner, having graduated from a Delonghi to a Gaggia Carezza and am thinking of moving up again.

Also considering the Francis Francis X5 on the Illy program (though reviews are not good),
the Saeco Aroma ($219 at Costco) or the Spidem Villa (I don't like the plastic or the automation).

So far the Saeco Aroma and the Novecento are looking best.

Thanks!

I'm not impressed.  Brian is right, this is not exactly an "upgrade."

You don't mention what kind of grinder you're using, but having a good grinder will improve your espresso a lot more than replacing your Gaggia will.  If I still had my Gaggia, I'd look seriously into saving my money for an HX machine, rather than getting this machine . . . then again, that's exactly what I did!  ;^)

Eduardo . . . you've had quite a first day!  Each of four posts recommending the same machine, and each mentioning the same vendor . . .

Do you also have grains of salt for us all, too?

Thanks for the advice, everyone!

Actually, my Carezza has serious issues.  I need to replace it but I realize with my budget it may not be an improvement.  I am thinking I will go for a lower end replacement (same class) but get a Rancilio Rocky grinder, since this seems like the best reviewed in the $400 range.  I have been using pre-ground Illy (I know, I know!) but realize that I should be grinding.  I also have read enough times that I probably should not bother with a Saeco Titan or Capresso Infinity burr grinders, both in the $100 range.

Why not go for a used grinder like a Mazzer or Macap which you can get for a similar price?

It's been brought to my attention, with proof, that "ToroBrasil" who has been responding to this and some other threads on CoffeeGeek where he talks up the Espressione line  is actually involved with Espressione.
