Subject: Nuova Simonellini Microbar - Troubleshooting/help!

I recently purchased a used Nuova Simonelli microbar.  It was supposed to work perfectly, and it does show signs of life, such as dispensing water, having mechanical things work on startup, etc.  However, the LCD turns on but does not display any text as it should, and the unit never really seems to be "on" in that sense, and thus does not heat up.

The problem is when it turns on, the blue LCD screen lights up, but does not display any message as it is supposed to.  We have tried pressing the enter button, holding it down, etc. and there is no message on the screen.  We have tried turning it on and off multiple times and one time a message did come on the screen, but it was jibberish. We also noticed that we cannot take the key out of the door when the door is closed.  It seems like it should just turn a bit more, but does not want to.  When the door is open, we are able to keep the key out.  We thought it may be related to the LCD screen not working. We do have water in the tank and beans in both grinders.  Water does come out from the hot watter nozzle, but it is cold, as the machine does not appear to be heating or turned on.

We have looked through the manual we downloaded online (which seems to be missing a troubleshooting section).  Does anybody have any idea what is wrong, what we could do, etc.?  Thanks!

Just a follow-up for anybody interested.  I spoke with the tech support at NS on two separate occasions today (Ben and then Bart).  They seem very knowledgeable.  They both felt it was the LCD itself which was on the fritz.  If that does not work, the rest of the machine will malfunction.  So, it sounds like I need to order this part ($264 + shipping) and install it and hope that is all it is.

If anybody has any experience with this or knows any other solutions which may work before I order, that would be great!
