Subject: what machine for BRIT in the US of A ??

hey guys

I've recently relocated to the US from the UK and looking to purchase a good espresso machine. Please could you help.

I've had a Gaggia Classic for several years which had daily use and am either looking for something similar or an upgrade.

Due to the voltage difference between the UK and US I had to leave my beloved Classic behind and gave it to friends, they are into coffee so i know its gone to a good home...

However what do i replace it with ?

Do I go for another Classic, or are there better options available.

We typically go for double espresso shots or occasionally a macchiato...

Recommendations and advice would be greatly received !!

Cheers
A

What's your budget?  There are certainly better machines than the Classic, depending on how much you're willing to spend.  A nice heat exchanger or double boiler machine would be a big upgrade from a Gaggia, though you'll pay well over a thousand bucks for a really good machine.  Take a look at the reviews on www.home-barista.com if you want to get an idea of what's out there in the high end of the range.

Also, don't forget to budget some money for the grinder, which is at least as important as the machine.  I'd recommend getting the best grinder you can afford and then use whatever money is left to buy a decent machine.  Again, the grinder reviews on home-barista will give you an idea of what you can expect to get if you want to get a really nice grinder.
