Hi,

I recently purchased a second hand Gaggia Classic. Its in fairly dirty condition and i am attempting to replace the group gasket and shower screen. After a very frustrating time removing the old shower screen (the screw head was screwed..) i find that I cannot remove the shower holding plate. It seems firmly stuck on. The 2 alan keyed screws came out easily enough, but still wont budge.

Any suggestions for removing it would be very gratefuly received.
Some readings indicate that i should be able to use a flatblade screwdriver to pry it off, but i cannot for the life of me work out where to pry from.

many thanks

Hi, i too had this problem awhile ago with a gaggia classic. What i did was get a screw thats the same thread as the screw that holds the shower screen on but a longer thread. Then simply screw that into the same hole, as it makes contact with the grouphead it will force the shower plate off - hopefully. Good luck

The longer screw with same size thread worked for me as well.  You will probably run into a stuck gasket as well.  You can screw a drywall screw into the gasket and then pull it out with plyers.  This works a lot better than trying to pry it out with a knife or screwdriver and eliminates the chances of messing up the group.

Good luck.  Great machine that will give you a great cup.

Started to panic when I thought I was destroying my machine.  The gasket has been there for at least 7 years and I thought I would never get it out because I could not get the shower plate out.  This tip worked fine for me, thanks!!!

Thanks for the tip! I just had the same issue and the longer screw did the trick. For reference, here are the two screws - the original screw on the right, and the "shower plate remover" screw on the left:
