Well, they tell me that the GS/3 does the compensation itself, but then again they could always be faulty. :-)

I think when Chris said it allows for you to correct for the offset, he was referring to the real life offset (difference between boiler measured temp and group head temp) because in that same post Chris was quoting someone who had discovered a 3 degree difference between the boiler temp setting and the group head temp. This compensation Chris referred to is referred to as the offset that everyone has set in their GS3. Your offset is set to 5.4 because the actual offset in real life was measured to be 5.4 between the group head and the boiler temp.

So basically, you will see the boiler set temp + offset on your display.

Boiler Set Temp + offset = Group Head Temp.

Therefore, when you look at your display, you are seeing the group head temp.

So if you want 201F you need to add 5.4 to your boiler temp setting. Then the math looks like this.

206.4 boiler temp + (-5.4) offset = 201 displayed group temp

Eric talks about when you in the mode for changing the brew boiler temperature. Mine shows the uncompensated temperature! But I would not rule out that a later software update will make you work with the compensated temperature instead? Eric which software version is your machine using?

When you set the boiler temp, that's exactly what you are setting, the boiler temp. When you look at the display during normal operation, it shows the boiler temp + offset.

Posted April 7, 2008 link Hi Jacob, I think this would be great in the ideal world, but only if one can be sure that the offset is set up correctly in the first place (and done so in each and every GS3 out there). Just my opinion, though. Personally I have stopped at looking at the temps on the display (I have my offset at -2.8C FWIW) and go purely on taste. I assume everyone agrees that the great thing about the GS3 is that the temp is so easy to adjust (as long as you allow some time for it stabilise after a change) and once set you can rely on the machine to be stable and deliver every time! Switching from one coffee to another is also easy once you learn the coffee, blend and roast degree. Dialing in naturally takes a bit longer with an unfamiliar coffee, but it is still easy... By the way, it was great to meet you Jacob and thanks for the DVD! Br, Teme
