Compared to other machines, I'm sure there isn't enough info/discussions about these machines, starting a dedicated thread should hopefully help.
I think the new versions of these machines are now called Epoca S1, S2, E1, E2 (Rancilio.com link).
I'm considering the S1 (plumbed) which is HX based, comes with a mighty 3.9L boiler, procon rotary bump, a boiler-draining fitting, etc. While researching this machine I saw the attached picture and there was a bolt above the group head (see red arrow). Does anyone know what's that? Can I like insert a thermocouple there? :-)

What an excellent idea. I just bought a used Rancilio S24, and my research was made much more difficult due to the lack of information on it. Finally, I realized the lack of information was a good thing. People tend to post when they have problems, and it seems the Rancilio S series has very few problems.
I love my machine. It is big and beautiful! I just refurbished a Compak K5 to complement it. Now I just need to make some space for it...

She's pretty understanding...although she does call me her coffeegeek now...I think she thinks I'm a little crazy. I tell her I'm just a little eccentric. :)
I have a question. How do you deal with the water dance? How long do you typically flush if it has been sitting idle for about an hour or two? I am finding it very difficult to be consistent. When things are right, the drink is excellent. When they are off? So So...

you know, with my machine I have not had much problems flushing, actually I was told to flush the amount in a shot glass, or about 25 seconds or so... not really sure. Sometimes I flush, others not. I am still working on setting or at least finding out the pressure of my shots as there is not dial on our machines. I have mine set at 1.2-1.3 bars right now.
