Hi! My husband and I are in the research stages of opening a coffee house. We're trying to get an idea of what machines everyone is using. We've looked at the Mirage, but, a friend brought up a good point about it. Who fixes it when it breaks if it's not American? So, we're trying to find out what great machines are made stateside and have quick fixes (ie-parts are more local, serviceman knows them, etc). We would really appreciate your thoughts and input on this. Also, machine horror stories wouldn't be a bad idea either. They help us to know what to keep an eye out for when purchasing. Thank you!!!
I think you are asking the wrong question here. Who fixes BMW cars or Honda motorcycles? The answer - their dealers (and they do it very well). The real question is whether the importer and repair facilities in your area adequately support the machine. You will see many European made machines in commercial use in the U.S. Contact repair facilities in your region of the country. Ask them what machines they support and which ones have good parts availability.

What machine you buy for a commercial operation will depend on who sells and services what in your area. La Marzocco is a nice machine, but you probably shouldn't get one if no one sells them in your area. Someone in my area recently opened a (very nice) coffee house and he has a Synesso Cyncra. He flew out to Seattle to learn how to service the machine because Synesso has very few, if any, dealers around the country. Very nice machine, however. mgwolf

Yeah, I was looking at the Cyncra today online. I think it's gonna be hard to find dealers in our area, because, well, Texas isn't really known for their coffee. They're barbeque people...lol. But, the area that we're in (NW Austin) is a lot of west coasters that have relocated. So, I know that the coffee house would do great, so long as we do it right. Right now, it's the #2 requested business to bring into our town. Which we found out after we decided to do this, so it helps to know that people want it. Thanks for all of your responses so far. Please, keep them coming. They're really helpful!! :D Also, somebody had sent me a private email. If you're reading this, and have a copy saved in your sent file, could you please resend it?? I accidently deleted it and I wanted to go over it with my husband. THANKS!!!

I suggest that you visit a couple of the really great coffee houses around Austin (well, there are really only a couple of great ones) and see how they do things if you are interested in doing it right. Maybe you already have...but if not you can start with Cafe Medici on West Lynn at 11th.
