Hey Guys,
My mom is looking to get a 1/2 decent machine. She isn't real hardcore but she loves Americanos and I got her a kick ass La San Marco grinder so it is time she got a decent machine. She can get a good deal on a new Gran for $100. Is it worth it? I have a Coffee Gaggia and I love it but does the Gran have the same guts with a plastic exterior? Cheers for the help all.

The Gran is not as good as the Coffee as it has half the heating power (so it warms up and transistions to steam much more slowly) and I think it has an aluminium PF and no dispersion disc between the group and the showerscreen. If you can get the Espresso or Carezza, those are plastic bodied versions of your Coffee.

My brother has a Gran. I think it is the cheapest you can get from Gaggia. I haven't seen a lot of Gaggias but this looks like a toy. I think you should go with the next step up in Gaggia. The advice already given is good.

My cousin has a Gran that's over fifteen years old (if I'm thinkin of the right model). He's constantly complaining about priming the pump, so I think you have to do that manually.

PS. kaanage, I haven't noticed a problem with the switches jamming on my Evolution, but that's good to know. I'll keep an eye out.
