Yeah, I will probably do the necessary fixes myself. Mainly the I think it is called the grouphead is stuck. Can't remove it so far. It is only issuing from two of the four holes. Everything else seems to be fine, including the temps and pressure but it is of course uneven. After 16 years too. I have not spent more than a few mins disassembling it but will probably get to a refurb on my own soon. The Gaggia has some personal meaning which is why.... and to be honest, it is a nice piece of machinery.
I went ahead and bought a cheap-o Red Gaggia and it is thankfully making excellent espressos. It does not have the feel of the Baby Gaggia, a bit lightweight in the build department. Still, with what folks have scoulded me for having a crummy Brevia grinder, I am getting really excellent shots. Honestly, the grinder is doing quite fine and the shots I am pulling are as good as it gets with this Red Gaggia and Brevia grinder.
Fortunately I have two top shelf coffee companies locally who produce top shelf beans (award winning). I also don't have the energy to defend all these choices as I felt like I was being pigeon holed into earlier. One day I will bring my original Baby Gaggia back to form and trust it will do the same.
Tx for asking. I'll get to it eventually....
You could possibly do it yourself if you are willing to get your hands a little dirty. What kind of issues are you having with the machine currently?
