I have a Verton Gicar flow meter. I have to jiggle it to get the machine going. I'm not sure if the connections are bad or if the whole thing is going out. It has a black cable running to a volumetric control panel. I wonder if replacing the cable is the easiest thing to try first? Is the cable proprietary to Gicar or can I get the parts at a big box store?

The cable is nor proprietary however I would check a couple of things before replacing. See if you can remove the top of the flow meter to check the turbine inside. When open check the turbine for smooth movement and also check for rust on the magnet.
If everything loos OK, then i would check the connections on both ends of the cable. If all looks OK, then the Hall Effect sensor may be damaged inside the flow meter. I can't remember if you can actually remove the sensor. Sometimes you can remove the connector on top of the flow meter and the sensor is directly under the connector (Plastic, low pressure versions only).
