Have any of you plugged your machine into an INSTEON ApplianceLinc or any other programmable, web-controlled switch? I like the idea of a timer but, even more, I like the idea of being able to turn the machine on when I leave the office so it's hot when I get home.
HI For me, no. I am on a timer and it is on at the same time every day, stays on all day or until I turn it off then is on the next morning. If the device can handle the start current, I see no issue with using it.
You need to make sure your machine will suffer no damage with remote starting though. I have a plumbed in machine so a supply of water is not a problem, if you have a pour over machine you need to be extra cautious that it is well supplied with water before using a timer or any remote start device.
Filling in your info in your bio really helps us to know what gear you have and it's abilities so you do not get extra words of caution when they are not need or we may know something to watch for that you have not thought of.

Good point. I'll fill in my bio to help clarify. Thanks!
The plan is to plumb the machine in. Once it is, I would love to remote start it but so far have only found the INSTEON switch and no evidence of any home baristas using it.
thanks for the bio. Just because no one else uses one, you need not worry, you can be the EXPERT! Seriously, if it has the specs to work, you want to use it, give it a try if you can afford to do so, then you can tell others how wonderful it is.... or to stay away if it bombs! :P I would not try to push a product to do something it does not have ratings for but if it does, I see no reason to not give it a try. Good luck!
