Hey guys, i was installing the PID and i broke off the wire lead to the heating element. It looks like it's welded to the post coming out of the heating element.. Is there anyway to fix it? the machine is only 1 month old.. I will try to upload a pic of it.. Any help would be much appreciated, wife is quite ticked.. (Click for larger image)

Welcome to CG. Sorry to see the difficulty. Can you get the upright round post of the element fairly clean. If so, then there other fittings to attach to the wire as some other machines come with round terminal posts on the elements. Be patient, there are a lot of Silvia users on CG, but Friday night is a bit slow. Help should be on its way.

hey buddy, thanks for the quick reply.. It was a clean break, post is clean.. The wire is still attached to the wire post or whatever it's called, then its the weld where the wire post (with wire) attaches to the upright of the heating element.. I went to the hardware store and bought a small metal hose clamp, like for garden hoses. I put the two together and tightened up the clamp. It seems to be working as the pid turned on and it looks like it's heating up.. It's kind of hokey and hopefully just temporary.. I also bought some marine epoxy that i was going to try. . Let me know what you guys think, i would love to just buy a proper attachment.. sorry i couldn't give a better pic, i was limited to 75kb when uploading it.. Any help would be much appreciated.. I love this website..

I would find a male spade terminal that would plug into the existing wire female spade. A short length of 14 awg wire, very flexible, and then a fitting to the terminal. My Gaggia and several machines use round terminal fittings to the element. That leaves the existing wire intact, and makes a short splice to the terminal, and all can be shrink wrapped. Somewhat "rigged" but adequate and safe. As I mentioned, several Silvia users here on CG, so better solutions may be coming. Sounds like you have a fix for now. I have some concern about insulation and how good the connection is. It carries a load. Watch for heating/overheating of the wire at the connection.

im having trouble picturing how that would look..are you saying that i would just buy a round fitting to attach to the heating element? that is where the problem is my wire and connecter all ripped right off of the heating element upright.. hopefully im explaining it good enough.. I really appreciate your time, that is awesome..

What I think broke off is a right angle spade fitting. Pull it out of the wire and replace the right angle spade with a straight spade, short piece of 14 awg, and then a round terminal fitting, converting the existing wire to a fitting. Hope you can visualize that. I am not sure where to get the fitting, but an electronics store could probably help, or one of the coffee parts places.

ya that makes sense, thanks a lot... hopefully someone will have a link to a good fitting.. I wonder if i could solder a small piece of wire right to the heating element.. thanks again, enjoy your weekend.

Can you determine the element terminal diameter? Micrometer?
