plenty of water in tank (over half full) so it's not starved for water.
during the purging, I just let it run for a long time to get the volume of water through it. didn't really accumulate much water, almost all was steam so cannot comment on that.
I'm not sure I understand your comment, "time the fill".
to me, the key observation was that the steam would almost fully run out before the light came on indicating heating(never seen this before). in the past it would keep up much better than this(you could discern steam waning, but light would come on much sooner). once the light came on, steam increased as would be expected.
