Hello coffeegeek community, 1) When is a Silvia boiler beyond repair? (see pic) 2) How do I clean the group head and boiler? 3) I want to but a threaded brass cap on the top of the boiler (the steam wand path). Effectively removing the steam wand. Will this make everything unstable?

Your link will not work on my machine but that really isn't need. Take a look at my Sylvia rebuild thread. http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/machinemods/547829 I don't know why you would want to block off the steam function of the machine, it will not make any operational difference one way or the other while taking away some of the functionability that was built into the machine and lowering it's value but it is your machine and if you want to do it, go ahead.

If you read the whole thread, you would have seen several pics inside the boiler both before and after rebuild. No problem with yours, it looks pretty normal. If you need to replace the heating element, it comes with the whole bell side of the boiler. There really is no other option, the element only on machines old enough to have the non soldered in heater, costs as much as the whole assembly anyway, as noted in my thread.
