Question for the experts. If I put a citric acid mixture into the boiler would it be best to remove all of the pipes that enter the boiler and put caps on the fittings so the particles will not be pushed into any of the lines going out of the boiler. This machine was used in a church and is in very nice shape. It is also very easy to get to everything when the armour is removed. I am going to remove and clean all of the copper tubes after I do the boiler. Thanks Tom

You do not need to go through all that trouble in a normal descale job. Just put the acid in and let it do it's thing then flush until clear.
If you WANT to disassemble and go that route, go ahead if you feel you need to but my PERSONAL feelings are that you will be causing more potential problems than you will be curing when you think about all the possible leaks you might be starting. Compression fittings should be replaced every time the connection is made, not everyone does and they may get away without any issue but a compression fitting (if used) is a one time design.
There shouldn't be any particles as the scale should dissolve into the acid but there may be some larger pieces that do not dissolve completely and may be broken loose.

What would be the best way to get the acid into boiler? What mixture would you use. How long before I would need to flush it out? Thanks for all of your help. Tom

Thanks for your reply. Lots of large pieces. I think I have scrapped most of them loose and have been able to remove them from the heating element hole. How many days should I leave the solution in the boiler? I am beginning to think I am working on a very expensive BOAT ANCHOR! I am really worried about the scale getting into the smaller lines and equipment and making more problems for me. Thanks Tom
