a note about the size of the original tubing on my via venezia. i havent looked inside but looking all over the web, i'm starting to believe that it is using a 4mm ID teflon tube from the pump to the boiler.
my original conclusion and decision to use 1/8" seems to be a bit premature. :\
hopefully i can still get it working using the 1/8" parts. Possibly use the existing 4mm tubing and connect that to my 1/8" fitting via an adapter or 4mm x 1/8" npt fitting.

I've decided to suspend this mod using the solenoid and shuttle valve and extra opv. luckily i've only purchased the fittings and hoses. the bulk of the cost to do this goes to the 3-way solenoid(110), the shuttle valve(45-50) and OPV(35).
i'm gonna try using the dimmer switch and examine my results before continuing on. If the electronic control really will be just as effective, doing all this other stuff i laid out might be pretty pointless.

I'm glad you're doing a reset on some of these mods... my head was beginning to swim trying to keep up with everything you were doing. Also, I did see a 1/8" hose for use on Saeco machines on that link you posted for me to look at. I guess I'll just do the dimmer mod and wait and see on the opv. I really would like to install a pressure guage eventually. I'm going to take a breather and do a little thinking... this will be easy to do since the hardware did not have the dimmer I want to use. He's going to order it Sunday so I'll have a few days to catch my breath and maybe get some beans roasted. Here is the dimmer I decided to go with. It is only rated at 200W so it should have a good range of adjustibility for the 41W pump my Aroma uses.
