Subject: 90s Gaggia Double Boiler machine- what does this button do??

Hello everyone, newb here with a question.  I have had a Pavoni lever machine for a couple of months now and I love it.  My dad wanted me to help him find a machine for my mom for Mother's day.  We may have overdone it a bit, but this is an awesome machine!  We got it used for $100 and after a new Rocon pump and some descaling it seems to work great.  We had to plumb it in and install a new 30 amp circuit because it was throwing the breaker.  It was just a little overkill.

This machine has a very simple control layout- button for hot water, button for the pump, and a knob for steam.  So can anyone tell me what the button on the panel under the hot water spout does?? Thanks!

What happens when you push it? If nothing, maybe it's some kind of reset switch.

It doesn't seem to do anything.  I thought it might be a standby switch but it isn't.  The only clue I've got is that when I first turn on the machine with the button engaged it takes about 5 seconds for the light on the switch to come on.  Ring any bells?

So when you turn the machine on with the button engaged, the button lights up? And otherwise it wouldn't be? I really have no idea what it might be, I think i would trace the wires from the button to possibly figure it out.

Often machines have a manual boiler fill, but the also tend to have water level gauges too. What model machine is it? Without more info, it is very hard to look up any details about the machine.

The model is Asso (which I think means Ace in italian?).  I'm not sure that will help too much as I couldn't find much of anything about it- no schematic or wiring diagram.  If you guys could find it I would appreciate it!  I was a bit worried when we plugged it up and couldn't get the steam boiler to fill or the pump to work.

I have never worked on this sort of machine before but it was fairly intuitive.  I just traced the water and fixed problems as they arose.  It was really just the seized pump, clogged elbow into the group head and burned wire at the boiler fill probe.  I'm still waiting on the brew basket from WLL to brew a shot with it but I have had it up to brew temp.  I'll play around with that button when the basket comes in and try to figure out if it is interrupting the steam element.
