Hi all,
I have a nasty little problem with my classic and it 'should' be very simply fixed. My friend has lost the small plastic part that seems to channel the esspresso as it leaves the portafilter. without it, i get coffee literally flying all over the worktops.
firstly, is that normal? because it is quite drastic and i have never seen the need for this plastic piece on anyother portafilter, so it seems overly troublesome for what it is.
secondly, where on earth can i get this little piece of plastic from? I can't find it anywhere on the internet?
thanks for any help, i can't make coffee until this is fixed!
I don't use one with my Gaggia and have no problems, maybe a bubble burst on really fresh coffee but otherwise clean pulls. I only use the spout when I am splitting a double otherwise I brew directly into a demitasse sans spout.

oh so i can take the spout off? ok i might try that, although that would only help for a single. But no, the spout isnt what im talking about. its a plastic piece just above it that sat under the basket. just a little cylinder with holes that channel the coffee.
but i think your right, i dont thinlk i should need this? should i? if not then it might point to a problem with my machine, i.e too high a pressure maybe??

You definitely don't need that part, assuming you have a decent grinder that will work for espresso. That part holds back the brewed liquid until the portafilter reaches a certain pressure then allows the espresso to pour through. A good grind, distribution and tamp makes that part obsolete even if your machine is putting out "too much" pressure.

If it's the little round plastic piece that is placed between the basket and portafilter, It is included for using the pressurized basket. I tried mine with it and without it. Let's just sat that without it, everything on my counter got covered in coffee. If you are using a pressurized filter, you do need it. It doesn't do anything if you are using a non-pressurized basket though.
Just in case you're unsure, the pressurized basket only has one hole visible on the bottom.
